1937-1946 Deluxe Heaters

Keeping the passenger area warm in cars and trucks during the winter was always a problem in the early years. Not only were the fans and cores small on heaters but the vehicles used recirculator heaters. Thus the air in the cab was recirculated rather than outside cold air being brought inside.

This helped for better warming but with more passengers, the additional humidity from breathing caused the windows to fog inside. GM attempted to solve this problem with the pictured "deluxe" heater. A separate optional motor on top forced warm air to the defroster nozzles and onto the windshield. There were two switches under the dash, one for each motor. It is doubtful the small heater core could supply warm air from the motors both at the same time!

This is antiquated by today's standards but did allow some relief on colder days.
